Injections for Migraine

Migraine

Patients with migraine often describe a long history of varied symptoms, which can impact on their normal well being. Migraine sufferers describe debilitating pain which can negatively impact on their quality of life and work.

Often there is a family history of headache and some patients find their symptoms are triggered by stress, dehydration, red wine, cheese, chocolate or citrus fruits. In others, hormonal changes can act as a trigger.

Women are more likely to be affected than men.

  • Nausea / Vomiting
  • Dislike of bright lights (photophobia) or noise

Treatment

At Olelo, we recommend arriving at a formal diagnosis of migraine. We work closely with Consultant Neurologists and GPs. Once a formal diagnosis has been made, we would recommend a variety of medical treatments as recommend by your GP or Neurologist.

In instances where such ‘classical’ therapy has failed, one would consider Botulinum toxin injection treatment. ( The same treatments used for as an anti-wrinkle treatment).

Treatment is usually given in cycles of twelve weeks with  application at various sites over the face, head and neck.

Evidence suggests that such treatments, over the course of 1 year, can reduce the number of migraines by half.
